The Medical Director’s Message

Dear Friends,
Bikur Cholim Hospital is the oldest hospital in the country and has being providing medical care for over a hundred and seventy five years. Paradoxically, one can say that Bikur Cholim Hospital is also one of the newest hospitals in the country as for the past three years the hospital has been in an intense state of rejuvenation.

Everyone coming to receive treatment or visit a patient will recognize the changes that have taken place within the hospital. In the beginning of 5767 we opened and dedicated our new labor and delivery suites. We are extremely proud of our delivery rooms, which in my opinion are amongst the most sophisticated in the world.

Many resources and much thought were invested in the renovation of these new delivery rooms to ensure an environment that is aesthetically pleasing as well as highly functional. This provides a maximum level of comfort to the woman giving birth and family members accompanying her. We have always been proud of our Obstetrics and Gynecology Department, and for good reason. The department is renowned both in Israel and abroad for its excellence. Thanks to the excellent work done in this department, we boast the lowest rate of Caesarian sections performed in Israel.

A woman giving birth at Bikur Cholim Hospital has always known that she would receive high quality treatment that is administered in a manner that is as natural as possible. I am happy to announce that the new labor and delivery rooms adds a new dimension to our high professional standard. We can thus offer an excellent experience to the expectant mother who wishes to give birth naturally in an environment that is on one hand safe, and on the other hand, aesthetically pleasing. This care is administered with sensitivity to the special needs of mother who adheres to the requirements of Halacha.

G-d willing, we are soon to embark on the building of the new Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (N.I.C.U.). The N.I.C.U. of Bikur Cholim Hospital is renowned for its excellence and has had great success in treating the critically ill newborn.  It is particularly well known for its successes in saving the lives of extremely low birth weight premature babies. The new ward will serve as an appropriate home for our excellent N.I.C.U. The new NICU will be equipped with the most advanced medical equipment in the field and will provide a pleasant environment for the families and the staff. I am confident that the successful combination of the outstanding labor and delivery suite and a renovated and expanded N.I.C.U. will bring Bikur Cholim Hospital to the forefront in the field of perinatal care in the Israel.

The warm and personal attention given to patients by the nursing staff that has characterized Bikur Cholim Hospital since its inception continues to be a hallmark of the hospital to this day. The nursing and medical staff is renown in Jerusalem for showering our patients with warmth and creating a family atmosphere. In light of the many changes that have taken place in the hospital over the past few years we are proud that there are certain things that haven’t changed. One of these things is the warm and familial atmosphere that is characteristic of the wonderful relationship between the staff and the patients.


We invite you to visit the hospital and see for yourselves the far-reaching changes and the development that has taken place. We are proud of the fact that more than sixty thousand residents of Jerusalem pass through our doors annually. We are honoured to continue to provide each and every one of those people with professional and courteous medical service.

We are proud of our long-standing contribution to the building of the city of Jerusalem and the State of Israel. We pray that we will continue serve as divine messengers in ministering to the needs of the ill and infirm.
